Mānuka honey is a complex honey that goes far beyond a simple table honey, It is a unique honey.It is widely recognised and highly sought after by consumers and has a substantial body of research behind it. Mānuka honey is acknowledged as being the ‘standard’ against which other honeys are compared.
What is UMF and MGO?
UMF and MGO are two individual grading systems. UMF is an acronym meaning Unique Manuka Factor. UMF is a complete and advanced grading system. It incorporates the measurement of MG (MGO) levels, but also includes additional testing of authenticity markers of the Manuka Honey.
UMF is an indicator of quality and purity of manuka honey. MGO stands for methylglyoxal, the naturally occurring compound that makes Manuka Honey so unique
Because UMF is a complete, advanced grading system, it is a purer indicator; but MGO is simpler and more straightforward to test. Therefore, you cannot say one is more reliable than another.
Although UMF and MGO measure different things, there is still a relationship between MGO and UMF values. Below is a table of rough parities:
UMF 5 = MGO83
UMF10 = MGO263
UMF15 = MGO514
UMF20 = MGO829
UMF25 = MGO1200
UMF32 = MGO1835
A UMF grading is usually between 5 and 32. An MGO grading will be between double digits and 2000 (above 2000 is not common).
What is Propolis?
Propolis is one of nature’s most powerful compounds – a unique combination of plant bioactives and bee ingenuity. Made by bees from plant resins, propolis is used to protect and sterilise the beehive, where it acts as the immune defence mechanism for the whole hive. Used as a traditional health product for centuries, modern scientific research confirms the protective properties of Propolis can provide significant support for human health.
What is Royal Jelly?
Pure royal jelly is a white, gelatinous substance produced by honeybees to nourish the queen bee and her larvae. Royal jelly is a nutritional powerhouse; packed with protein, amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, and minerals.
What is Bee pollen?
Bee pollen is a ball of pollen made by young bees when they land on a flower. It’s a mixture of pollen, saliva, and nectar or honey. Bees carry these balls back to the hive in sacs on their legs and store them in the hive’s honeycomb. The pollen then ferments into “bee bread,” which feeds a bee colony.
It consists of simple sugars, protein, minerals and vitamins, fatty acids, and a small percentage of other components.
